AFC Challenge League

The AFC Challenge League is the third tier of Asian club football's continental pyramid, sitting beneath both the AFC Champions League Elite and the AFC Champions League Two. Relaunched for the 2024-25 season, it was designed specifically for clubs from the Asian Football Confederation's developing football nations, associations that had previously found it difficult to gain meaningful continental exposure. The competition brings these clubs together through a qualifying and group stage organized along regional lines, with the leading sides then advancing to a knockout phase that culminates in a final. By giving clubs from smaller or less established leagues a realistic pathway to continental football, the Challenge League fills a gap that the region's top two competitions could not address on their own, broadening participation across Asia's football map.
