Premier League

Armenia's Premier League is the top flight of the country's football, established in 1992 after Armenian independence when the domestic championship broke away from the old Soviet football pyramid. It remains a small league by European standards, with a compact number of clubs and a calendar that has shifted between formats over the years to accommodate the limited pool of teams. Pyunik has been the outstanding force of the post-independence era, building the largest trophy collection in the modern league's history, while Ararat Yerevan carries the deepest historical prestige of any Armenian club after winning the Soviet league and cup double in 1973, the only such title won by an Armenian side during the Soviet era.
