Asian Cup Women

The AFC Women's Asian Cup is Asia's championship for women's national teams, held since 1975 and one of the oldest continental competitions in the women's game. The tournament brings together the continent's qualified nations for a group stage followed by knockout rounds to decide the champion, with the format having expanded significantly since the early editions. China have been the tournament's record champions, dominating the competition's first decades before Japan, Australia and North and South Korea emerged as regular challengers for continental honours. In its current cycle, strong performances at the Asian Cup double as a qualification route to the FIFA Women's World Cup, giving the tournament added significance. The growth of domestic leagues in Japan, Australia and China has fed steadily rising standards across the competition.
