Cup

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Cup reached its modern, unified format in the 2000-01 season, once clubs from across the whole country began competing together after years of separate, ethnically-divided competitions in the aftermath of the war. Teams from the Premijer Liga enter alongside clubs from the lower tiers of Bosnian football, with the tournament run as a straight knockout that rewards its winner with qualification for the UEFA Conference League. Because the competition brings together clubs from every part of the country in a single bracket, cup ties often carry significance well beyond football itself, offering a shared sporting stage in a football landscape that is otherwise still organized along regional and ethnic lines. Smaller provincial clubs occasionally use the cup to spring upsets against the country's bigger sides.
