Serie A

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, universally known as the Brasileirão, is Brazil's top football division, first played as a unified national championship in 1971 after decades in which the country's vast size confined football to state and regional competitions. Twenty clubs play a full 38-round double round-robin, and since 2003 the title has been decided purely on points — no play-offs and no split season, an unusual format for South America; the bottom four are relegated to Série B. Palmeiras are generally regarded as the leading club of the national-championship era, with Flamengo — whose fanbase is among the largest of any club in the world — Corinthians, Santos and São Paulo completing a group of giants whose meetings define Brazilian football. The league remains one of the world's great exporters of footballing talent. Follow live scores, fixtures, results, standings and statistics for the competition, updated in real time.
