CAF Champions League

The CAF Champions League is African club football's most prestigious competition, run by the Confederation of African Football. Its roots trace back to the African Cup of Champions Clubs, first contested in 1964, before the tournament was restructured and rebranded under its current name in 1997, when a group stage was introduced. National champions from across the continent enter through preliminary and qualifying rounds, with the survivors forming a group phase that narrows down to semi-finalists and finalists competing over two legs. Egypt's Al Ahly stand far above every other club in the competition's history, holding the record for championships by a wide margin. The tournament remains the continent's benchmark for club success, and its champion advances into the CAF Super Cup against the Confederation Cup winner.
