Copa Do Brasil

The Copa do Brasil is the country's national knockout cup, contested annually since 1989 and organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation. Unlike the Brasileirão, it is open to clubs from every state federation, so top-flight giants can be drawn against tiny amateur or semi-professional sides from the earliest rounds, which are usually decided over a single match hosted by the smaller club. Later rounds switch to two-legged ties, building up to a two-leg final. Substantial prize money makes the tournament a financial lifeline for smaller clubs and fuels its reputation for dramatic upsets. Cruzeiro are the record winners with six titles, one more than Grêmio, reflecting the tournament's status as one of the most unpredictable cup competitions in world football.
