Cup

The Cyprus Cup is the country's primary knockout competition, run alongside the league by the Cyprus Football Association and open to clubs from across the island's football pyramid. As in most European cup formats, lower-division sides enter in early rounds with a chance to test themselves against First Division opposition, while the traditional powers usually emerge in the closing stages. APOEL and Omonia Nicosia again feature among the tournament's most successful sides, reflecting their broader dominance of Cypriot football, and the final is traditionally one of the most-watched domestic fixtures of the season. Winning the cup carries qualification into European competition, giving mid-table and smaller clubs a rare route onto the continental stage without needing a high league finish.
