FA Women's Cup

The Women's FA Cup is England's oldest and most prestigious women's football knockout competition, with a lineage stretching back to its first edition in 1970-71, shortly after the Football Association lifted its long-standing ban on women's football. Open to clubs across the entire football pyramid, from top-flight sides down to grassroots amateur teams, it is decided on a single-elimination basis over one leg per round, culminating in a final traditionally staged at a major English stadium. Arsenal have been the competition's dominant club by a wide margin, holding the record for the most titles won, well clear of challengers such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton. Its broad entry list, spanning many rounds each season, makes it the clearest link in English football between the elite game and the grassroots.
