Trophée des Champions

The Trophée des Champions is the French Super Cup, tracing back to an untitled exhibition in 1949 and running under various names before settling into its current form under the professional league from 1995 onward. It pits the reigning Ligue 1 champion against the Coupe de France holder in a single match, traditionally opening the new season and, since 2009, frequently staged outside France in cities from Montreal to Tel Aviv as a promotional showcase. Paris Saint-Germain have dominated the competition since the 1995 relaunch, including eight consecutive titles from 2013 to 2020, with Lyon a distant second on the all-time list. If one club wins both the league and cup, the Ligue 1 runner-up takes their place in the match.
