CONMEBOL - Pre-Olympic Tournament

The CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament is South America's Olympic football qualifier for men's under-23 national teams, with a history stretching back to 1960 in Peru, making it one of the continent's longest-running youth competitions. All ten CONMEBOL nations typically take part, split into two groups of five for a round-robin phase, before the leading sides advance to a final group stage that decides the continent's Olympic representatives, usually two direct qualifying places. Brazil has traditionally been the tournament's most successful side, with a trophy haul built up over several decades. Because qualification for the Olympics has always mattered more than the trophy itself, matches here are typically played with an intensity to match any senior tournament.
