World Cup - Qualification Asia

World Cup Qualification Asia is the multi-round competition through which the Asian Football Confederation determines its representatives at the FIFA World Cup. The campaign begins with preliminary rounds for the continent's lower-ranked teams, narrows through group stages, and finishes with a final round that decides who books a direct ticket to the finals, with the earliest rounds doing double duty as qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup. For the 2026 World Cup, Asia's direct allocation rose to eight places plus a further spot in the intercontinental play-off, up from four and a half in previous cycles, mirroring the expansion of the World Cup itself. South Korea and Japan have historically been among the continent's most consistent qualifiers, rarely missing a tournament. Stretching from the Middle East to East Asia, the confederation covers more time zones than any other qualifying region.
