CONMEBOL Recopa

The Recopa Sudamericana is South America's club super cup, an annual meeting between the champions of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana from the same season. It mirrors similar super cup fixtures played around the world, offering an early-season measure of which club stands above the rest of the continent. Historically, the tie has been played over two legs, home and away, with the aggregate score deciding the winner, and further tiebreakers used if the sides finish level. Because it pits the winners of South America's two main continental cups against one another, the Recopa often produces high-quality, competitive matches despite its relatively low profile compared with the Libertadores itself. For the clubs that reach it, lifting the Recopa is widely seen as confirmation of a genuinely outstanding continental season.
