Svenska Cupen

Svenska Cupen is Sweden's national knockout tournament, first held in 1941 and organized outside the league calendar to crown a separate cup champion each year. The modern competition is unusually large, drawing in around 96 teams: all of Allsvenskan and Superettan alongside dozens of clubs from the lower, semi-professional tiers of Swedish football. Matches are single-elimination from the early rounds through to the final, giving smaller clubs a realistic chance to knock out top-flight opposition before the biggest names typically enter in later stages. The winner is awarded the Gustaf VI Adolf Cup and earns a route into UEFA Europa League qualifying, making the competition a genuine second path to European football alongside a strong league finish.
