The Schweizer Pokal is Switzerland's national football cup, organized annually since the 1925-26 season and run alongside the league as the country's other major domestic prize. The tournament follows a straight knockout format open to clubs from across the Swiss football pyramid, so lower-division and amateur teams enter alongside every Super League side, with the draw regularly throwing up ties between full-time professionals and part-time local clubs. Those early rounds are where the competition's best stories tend to come from, as smaller sides occasionally eliminate much bigger names in front of packed community grounds. The winner earns a place in European qualification, giving the cup a genuine sporting stake beyond its long history and making it a meaningful complement to the league championship.
