AFC Cup

The AFC Cup is Asian club football's second-tier continental competition, sitting beneath the AFC Champions League in the region's football pyramid. Launched in 2004, it was created to give clubs from Asia's emerging football nations a dedicated pathway to continental competition, separate from the confederation's flagship event. For most of its history, the tournament followed a zonal format, with clubs from West, Central, South, ASEAN, and East Asia competing in regional groups before inter-zone play-offs produced a champion. From the 2024-25 season, the competition was rebranded as the AFC Champions League Two, reflecting a wider overhaul of Asian club competitions and their qualification structure. For developing football nations across the continent, the tournament has long served as a valuable stage for clubs and players seeking international exposure.
