AFC U17 Asian Cup

The AFC U17 Asian Cup is Asia's championship for national under-17 teams, launched in 1985 as the AFC U-16 Championship before later adopting the under-17 age bracket and, more recently, its current name. Sixteen teams contest the finals, drawn into four groups of four, with the leading sides advancing through quarter-finals and semi-finals to the title match. The tournament doubles as Asia's main qualifying route to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, giving every match genuine stakes beyond the continental trophy itself. Over the decades it has become a first proper look at many of Asia's most talented teenagers, several years before those same players might break into their senior national teams.
