AFC U20 Asian Cup

The AFC U20 Asian Cup is Asia's championship for national under-20 teams, tracing its roots to the AFC Youth Championship first staged in 1959, making it one of the oldest continental youth competitions in the world. It has been rebranded more than once over the decades before settling on its current name and now brings 16 teams together in four groups of four, with the top two from each progressing to a knockout stage of quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. South Korea has been the dominant force for most of the tournament's history, winning far more titles than any rival. Beyond continental bragging rights, strong runs here matter directly, since the semi-finalists claim Asia's places at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
