AFC U23 Asian Cup - Qualification

This is the qualifying stage that decides which national teams progress to the finals of the AFC U23 Asian Cup, the Asian Football Confederation's continental championship for under-23 sides. Teams are drawn into groups and play centralized mini-tournaments, usually hosted by one nation per group, with the section winners and the best runners-up earning their place among the finalists. Because the Asian Cup itself can double as Olympic qualifying in relevant years, a good run through this qualifying phase can matter well beyond continental bragging rights. For federations across such a vast and diverse confederation, from East Asia to the Gulf and Central Asia, these matches are often the only meaningful international minutes their young players get at this level.
