Copa Argentina

The Copa Argentina is the country's national knockout cup, relaunched in 2011 after a long hiatus and open to clubs from every division of the Argentine football pyramid, from the Primera División down to regional amateur leagues. Ties are generally played as single matches at neutral venues, giving lower-league sides a rare chance to face and sometimes eliminate the country's biggest clubs on level terms, which has built the tournament's reputation for giant-killing upsets. Success brings more than a trophy: the winner typically earns qualification for continental competition through the Copa Libertadores and a place in Argentina's domestic Supercopa. Its broad, inclusive format makes it one of the most democratic cup competitions in South America.
