Asian Cup

The AFC Asian Cup is the premier international football tournament for men's national teams in Asia, organised by the Asian Football Confederation. First played in 1956 in Hong Kong, making it the second-oldest continental championship in the world after the Copa América, it now features 24 teams competing every four years for the continental title, with early qualifying rounds doubling as World Cup qualifiers. Japan hold the record with four titles (1992, 2000, 2004, 2011), while Qatar became back-to-back champions after winning on home soil and successfully defending the trophy at the following edition. With Asia spanning football cultures from the Gulf to East Asia, the Asian Cup showcases a wide range of playing styles and has grown steadily in global profile as Asian clubs and players increase their presence in Europe's top competitions.
