Premijer Liga

The Premijer Liga is the top football division of Bosnia and Herzegovina, formed in 2000 for clubs from the Federation entity before expanding to include clubs from Republika Srpska from the 2002-03 season onward, unifying the country's football under one national top flight. The league season combines home-and-away rounds with promotion and relegation to the rest of the domestic pyramid, and qualification for European competition for the strongest finishers. Zrinjski Mostar have collected more championships than any other club since the league's unification, with Sarajevo and Željezničar standing as the competition's other traditionally leading names, both drawing on football cultures that predate the modern Bosnian state itself. Matches between clubs from different entities can carry a charge that goes well beyond the football.
