CAF Confederation Cup

The CAF Confederation Cup is Africa's second-tier continental club competition, serving as the counterpart to the CAF Champions League. It was formed in 2004 through the merger of two older tournaments, the CAF Cup Winners' Cup and the CAF Cup, combining them into a single competition. Clubs enter through qualifying rounds before a group stage narrows the field to the knockout rounds, with the final historically decided over two legs, home and away. The competition gives clubs that fall short of qualifying for, or are eliminated from, the Champions League another route to continental silverware and prize money. Its champion does not simply lift a trophy and stop there: the winner goes on to face the Champions League winner in the CAF Super Cup, an annual curtain-raiser that opens the following African club season.
