3. Liga is the third tier of German football, established in 2008 when it replaced the regional Regionalliga as a unified national division. It sits below the 2. Bundesliga and above the four regional Regionalliga divisions, and unlike many third tiers across Europe it operates as a fully professional league. Twenty clubs compete across the season, with the champions and runners-up promoted automatically and the third-placed side entering a play-off against a 2. Bundesliga club. 3. Liga is known for attracting well-supported, traditional clubs with top-flight history, whose large travelling followings and passionate atmospheres stand out at this level, giving the division unusually high average attendances for a third tier. Follow live scores, fixtures, results, standings and statistics for the competition, updated in real time.
