Euro Championship

The UEFA European Championship, commonly known as the Euro, is the top international tournament for men's national teams from Europe. First played in 1960 as the European Nations' Cup and won by the Soviet Union, it adopted its current name in 1968 and has grown from a four-team knockout event into a 24-team tournament with a group stage followed by knockout rounds. Held every four years and organised by UEFA, qualification runs over two years and involves nearly all of the continent's national teams. Spain are the most successful side with four titles (1964, 2008, 2012 and 2024), just ahead of Germany's three. Renowned for producing tactical trends that shape club football for years afterward, the Euro is Europe's biggest football event outside the World Cup, combining fierce rivalries with weeks of tournament football hosted across the continent.
