Gaúcho - 1

The Campeonato Gaúcho is the state championship of Rio Grande do Sul, first played in 1919 after its planned 1918 debut was postponed by the Spanish flu pandemic. Clubs from across the state contest a group phase followed by knockout rounds to crown a champion each year. Football in the state has long been defined by the rivalry between Grêmio and Internacional, whose meetings are known as the Grenal and rank among South America's fiercest derbies, with the two clubs accounting for the overwhelming majority of state titles. The tournament also serves as early-season competitive action for Rio Grande do Sul's clubs before national competitions get underway.
