NB I

NB I is Hungary's top football division and one of the oldest national championships in Europe, having been established in 1901. Twelve clubs currently make up the league, playing a full home-and-away season with European qualification for the leading finishers and relegation for the weakest sides at the foot of the table. Ferencváros stands far above every rival in the history books, with a collection of more than thirty championships built up across more than a century of competition. The league's golden age in the 1950s ran alongside Hungary's legendary “Golden Team” era in international football, when players developed in this same domestic football culture helped reshape the sport's tactics worldwide. That deep well of history gives NB I a stature beyond what Hungary's modern club game might otherwise suggest.
