State Cup

The Israel State Cup is the country's foremost knockout competition, with a lineage that reaches back to 1928, when the People's Cup was first contested under the British Mandate in Palestine, making it one of the oldest continuously recognised football competitions in the Middle East. The tournament was renamed the Israel State Cup following the country's independence in 1948 and continues to draw clubs from every level of the domestic football pyramid into a single-elimination draw. Maccabi Tel Aviv holds a leading share of the trophy's history among the competition's winners, consistent with the club's broader dominance of Israeli football. As with the league, victory in the State Cup carries qualification into European competition, giving the final an added layer of significance each season.
