Super Cup

The Supercoppa Italiana is Italy's Super Cup, instituted in 1988 as a single match between the Serie A champion and the Coppa Italia winner. Long a pioneer of overseas hosting — it was first played abroad in Washington, D.C. in 1993, well before the practice became common elsewhere in Europe — the competition expanded from 2023 into a four-club Final Four (the Serie A champion and runner-up alongside the Coppa Italia winner and runner-up) staged in Saudi Arabia. Juventus have traditionally been the competition's leading club, though Inter Milan, AC Milan and Lazio have all closed the gap in recent seasons, making the current picture closely contested. The trophy directly links Italy's two most important domestic honours, the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia.
