1. Division

The 1. Division is the second tier of Kazakh football, sitting below the Kazakhstan Premier League. Like the top flight, it follows a spring-to-autumn calendar, running from March to November rather than the autumn-to-spring season used in much of Europe, a format suited to the region's climate. Clubs play each other home and away over the course of the season, with the leading sides earning promotion to the Premier League. The division gives provincial clubs across Kazakhstan a competitive platform and a direct pathway to the country's top division, playing an important role in developing the domestic football pyramid outside the capital and largest cities.
