League Cup

The Scottish League Cup is a national knockout competition first held in the 1946-47 season, making it one of the older league cups in European football. Contested by clubs from across Scottish football, its modern format combines an early group stage with a straight knockout draw through the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. Rangers have historically been the competition's most successful club, reflecting the tournament's long association with Scotland's leading sides. Played earlier in the season than the Scottish Cup, the League Cup gives clubs an early opportunity for silverware and often offers fans of smaller clubs a rare visit to a major cup final.
