Super Cup

Poland's Super Cup has a genuinely patchy history: established in 1980 but not actually played until 1983, and repeatedly cancelled or skipped across the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s before becoming a fixed annual fixture only in recent years. It is a single match, decided by penalties without extra time if level, between the Ekstraklasa champion and the Polish Cup winner, typically played in July just before the new league season. Lech Poznań and Legia Warszawa have historically been the competition's two most successful clubs, with Legia also having reached the most finals of any side, though its stop-start history is itself the tournament's most distinctive trait.
