King's Cup

The King's Cup, officially the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' Cup, is Saudi Arabia's oldest surviving domestic football competition, first contested in 1957. It ran continuously for over three decades before a roughly 17-year hiatus in the 1990s and 2000s, returning with a reduced field in 2008 and a broader knockout format from 2014. Today around 32 clubs from the Pro League and First Division compete in a straight single-elimination bracket, including the final. Al-Ahli were the dominant club of the competition's original era, while Al-Hilal have led the way since its revival, making the two clubs' rivalry — sometimes billed as Saudi football's own clásico — central to the cup's history.
