Primera División - Clausura

The Torneo Clausura is the closing half-season tournament of Uruguay's Primera División, following the Apertura in the second half of the football year. As in the opening tournament, clubs meet in a round-robin format to determine the Clausura champion, who then meets the Apertura winner in a championship decider that settles the season's overall title. The competition takes place against the backdrop of Uruguayan football's long-standing duopoly, with Peñarol and Nacional having claimed the vast majority of domestic championships between them. Because the Clausura closes out the campaign, its final rounds often carry direct implications for the season's ultimate champion.
