The Frauen-Bundesliga is Germany's top division of women's football, run as a nationwide single league since the 1990-91 season, when it replaced a regionalized amateur structure. Twelve clubs contest a home-and-away schedule for the championship, with the bottom finishers relegated. 1. FFC Frankfurt were the league's dominant power in its first decades, winning the title more often than any other club before merging into Eintracht Frankfurt in 2020 and carrying that trophy record forward under the new name.
